Things really couldn’t be much worse for legendary head coach Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots so far this season.
After five games, the Patriots only have one win, and they’ve been outscored 72-3 in their last two matchups.
It certainly feels like this could be Belichick’s final season in New England, especially if things continue to go as poorly as they’ve gone during the last two weeks.
But if the successful head coach were to actually leave the Patriots, would he retire, or would he attempt to be the head coach of a different NFL team?
Former NFL wide receiver James Jones thinks that the Los Angeles Chargers could be a landing spot for Belichick if he ends up parting ways with New England by the end of the 2023 season.
“I truly believe if [Belichick] got to a team like the Chargers, with a Justin Herbert, a team with an elite quarterback, I think Bill Belichick could find a way to win.”

It would definitely be interesting to see what Belichick could do for a team like the Chargers.
Belichick leaving the Patriots to coach in Los Angeles would also potentially provide an answer to the question about whether Tom Brady or the legendary head coach was the biggest reason for New England’s massive success during the first two decades of the 21st century.
We don’t even really know how much Belichick has had to do with the Patriots’ struggles this season.
What we do know is that Mac Jones probably is not the quarterback of the future in New England, as he has been struggling mightily this season.
If the Patriots decide to move on from Jones in 2024, will Belichick be the one to pick a new quarterback, or will he be getting ready for his first season as the head coach of the Chargers?
