The Boston Celtics and Jrue Holiday agreed to a four-year, $135 million extension on Wednesday, a huge sign of the team’s confidence in their new player.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Brian Scalabrine spoke about this choice and how it might change the team’s future.

He said that the front office is obviously comfortable spending a lot of money on their players.

That will cost them a lot in the long run but, according to Scalabrine, it means the Celtics will “probably be the favorite to win the championship the next four years.”

The Celtics are going to be spending a lot of money for the foreseeable future.

The contracts of Holiday, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and others are going to be racking up massive numbers and taxes too.

But Boston is okay with that because they know how crucial all of those stars are.

They are the favorites to not only win the Eastern Conference but also the NBA Finals right now.

Of course, there is a difference between being a favorite and actually winning.

If the Celtics fall short of their lofty goals this year, some people will question the moves they have made and the money they have spent.

They are putting up a lot of cash to earn their success, so they have to deliver.

The Celtics are easily the top team in their conference with a 62-17 record.

Wednesday’s commitment to Holiday shows that they really believe in the roster they have right now and think it can lead to their 18th championship banner.

If it does, all of this will be money well spent.
