Minnesota Vikings fans weren’t sure what to think about their quarterback situation heading into the preseason.

After the team replaced Kirk Cousins with a combination of Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy, it seemed like the team was entering a rebuilding period.

An adage says, “If you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks,” as it can be difficult to gain traction and consistency down the stretch.

Early indications were that Darnold would start the year for the team, giving McCarthy time to sit back, relax, and learn from a veteran.

That idea might have started to change after Saturday’s preseason game.

McCarthy put on a show, throwing two touchdowns, and looking confident when doing it.

He has gotten the attention of many top analysts, along with current and former players.

Chase Daniel made sure to make his feelings known in a recent tweet, talking about how impressed he was with the rookie.

Daniel was excited about what he saw from McCarthy, saying he was “dealing,” and “staring down the barrel at QB.”

J.J. McCarthy was dealing yesterday…talk about staring down the barrel at QB!

This might be one of my favorite throws of the weekend. Takes ALOT of courage to sit in the pocket like that. #Skol pic.twitter.com/E2l21fKjmI

Now, players can look great in the preseason, yet fall short of expectations when the regular season begins.

However, playing well during this time is also essential, as it allows players to compete with NFL-caliber players.

McCarthy had no problem picking cornerbacks apart in this first start, and if this is just the beginning, Vikings fans could be in for a real treat, especially if they let him start the season under center instead of Darnold.
