Even though it was ‘just the preseason,’ all eyes were on the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night.

They drew plenty of mockery and criticism over their decision to use a top-10 pick to draft Michael Penix Jr., who was projected to go later in the first round, particularly after spending all that money to get Kirk Cousins.

Cousins left the Minnesota Vikings to get yet another hard-to-explain big-money deal, and it didn’t take long before the Falcons took his heir apparent — who also happens to be 24 years old already.

Notably, the Washington product looked very sharp in his first taste of NFL action.

That’s why former NFL QB Chase Daniel raved about one of his deep throws, stating that he was the most accurate deep-ball passer in the entire class.

Penix started and played five drives in the first half of the preseason opener vs. the Miami Dolphins.

He led the team to a pair of touchdowns, going 9-for-16 for 104 yards, including this beautiful 41-yard bomb to Chris Blair to set up their first score of the evening.

Then, in his second-to-last drive, he made the most of the great field position they got because of an interception, completing two passes to set up Carlos Washington Jr. for a short touchdown rush.

Penix threw for over 4,900 yards and 36 scores in his final season with the Huskies, and he looked like he could be a very good player at the next level as well, even if he has to wait for a little longer than other prospects.
