Former Teammate Details Why Dwight Howard Isn’t Respected

There was a real possibility that Dwight Howard would make his return to the NBA after spending this past season overseas in Taiwan.

Howard and the Golden State Warriors were in talks to sign a training camp deal after the team brought the veteran center in for a workout and meeting.

However, things didn’t go Howard’s way as the Warriors opted to go in a different direction for the 2023-24 NBA season.

It feels like Howard’s days playing in the league are just about over, though he has yet to come out and officially retire from basketball.

The former Defensive Player of the Year is a sure-fire Hall of Famer given his resume and accolades, though he still doesn’t get the respect he deserves from fans and his peers.

Howard’s former teammate in Trevor Ariza helped explain why Howard doesn’t get the credit he deserves via Club Shay Shay.

“Dwight Howard was too goofy. He played too much. Everybody else doesn’t understand that personality … Having a smile and being a killer, the only person to get that off was Magic Johnson,” Ariza said.

Fans and the media like to put players who are always serious and cutthroat on a pedestal, two traits that Ariza noted aren’t associated with Howard.

During the early part of his career, Howard was known for his childish antics both on and off the floor, and that perception followed him throughout the years.

Even after winning a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, Howard still got ridiculed and criticized for his personality but hopefully that changes once he decides to hang his sneakers up for good.
