When Kyrie Irving was acquired by the Dallas Mavericks, some fans weren’t sure what position he would play within the team.
Apparently, he isn’t always sure either.
Theo Pinson sat down with Tidal League, via ClutchPoints, and said that Irving has a bit of an identity crisis.
“[Irving] thinks he’s a [forward] for some d–n reason,” Pinson said.
“We have this debate all the time. You are six-foot, you are not a four. He love rebounding,” Pinson continued.

It’s not shocking to hear that Irving wants to play like a forward even though he’s built like a guard.
For years now, he’s been one of the most driven players in the league and wants to be deep in every single possession and battle on the court.
His desire to rebound and perform like a forward comes because he is so adamant about playing hard.
Of course, this can cause some confusion on a team.
You can understand why Irving would want to play as a forward for the Mavericks.
They are definitely lacking frontcourt power.
With Luka Doncic, they have a powerful backcourt leader but they are missing strong and impactful big men down by the basket.
Fans are hoping that the team’s front office will do something to remedy that.
But even when they do, Irving will probably still play like someone who is much bigger than he is.
In the seasons ahead, Irving will need to double down on being the best guard possible.
He should do everything it takes to greatly complement Doncic and lead the team to victory.
