The NBA Finals are finally upon us, meaning we’re about to be without NBA basketball for quite a while once the series concludes.
That’s why most fans should be hanging onto whatever we have left in the season, making the most of the chance to watch the best basketball on Earth while they still can.
However, it seems like they’re not that interested in what’s going on right now.
According to a report by Sports Media Watch, ratings for Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks went down 5% compared to Game 1 of last season (via NBACentral).
Ratings and viewership for yesterday’s Game 1 declined by 5% compared to last year’s Heat-Nuggets Game 1, per @paulsen_smw

That’s particularly odd if you consider the fact that we have one huge market like Boston, while last season’s NBA Finals featured the Miami Heat going against the Denver Nuggets.
There are also two major storylines to watch within this series, which is Kyrie Irving going against his former team and the fans who despise him the most, and Kristaps Porzingis trying to get back at Luka Doncic after their failed stint together.
Even so, for whatever reason, Game 1 of the NBA Finals didn’t draw as much attention.
Perhaps that has to do with the fact that fans from all other teams don’t seem to have much sympathy for the Celtics and their star duo, or perhaps they just forgot to tune in after nine days without NBA basketball.
