Geno Smith led the Seattle Seahawks to the playoffs in 2022, which wasn’t a common preseason prediction.
Smith was mainly a career backup, spending time in this offense under Russell Wilson.
When Wilson left, it was his time to shine.
There were many factors in the Seahawks’ success, including the tenure and experience of Pete Carroll.
According to the team via Sunday Night Football on NBC, Smith said “You see your head coach out there running sprints- it’s not hard to come to work and give it your all.”

As Smith mentions, seeing Carroll run alongside his teammates has been a great motivator.
Will the Seahawks be able to build on their unforeseen success of 2022?
Several factors at play will determine the Seahawks’ ceiling this season.
The NFC West was top-heavy last season, and it will be one of the Seahawks’ barriers to playoff entry.
After massive injuries to the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams, they were both out of the division race early in the year.
This left a two-way run to the top, which the San Francisco 49ers ended up winning.
However, they are currently struggling with their quarterback situation, still working out three players for the QB1 role.
If there’s any growing pains within the division, the Seahawks might be able to capitalize early.
If the Seahawks hold steady, there’s no telling what they can do.
They begin the year with games against the Rams, Detroit Lions, and Carolina Panthers.
If they win at least two of those games, it could be the jumpstart they need to forge ahead.
