The Denver Broncos have made an uncomfortable decision, but it was a decision that needed to be made.
It’s become loud and clear that they no longer count on Russell Wilson, and it wasn’t shocking to see them cut ties with him as soon as possible.
That’s why they shut him down and demoted him to QB2 to prevent any injury that would keep them on the hook for more money down the stretch, and the whole situation has been kind of humiliating for the former Super Bowl champion.
With that in mind, his colleague Geno Smith took to Twitter to voice his support for his predecessor, asking the Broncos to just ‘free him.’

Ironically, Smith went on to take the reins of the Seahawks, beating Drew Lock for the QB1 spot and securing a big contract after an impressive breakout year last season.
Wilson, on the other hand, went on to have the worst campaign of his career, drawing mockery and criticism during his first year at Mile High.
Putting all the blame on Russell Wilson for all the things that went wrong in Denver would be inaccurate and unfair.
However, he wasn’t up to the task, and even when he was at his best, it was far from what was expected from a guy with his résumé and making that much money.
But even if he wasn’t good, he still deserves respect for everything he’s accomplished in the National Football League, and he shouldn’t go out like this.
