The Denver Nuggets may have finished the 2023-24 NBA regular season as the Western Conference’s No. 2 seed, but they are still considered to be the favorites to make the NBA Finals.
Denver is taking on the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs and took home a convincing Game 1 victory.
The Lakers put up a valiant effort in the first half, but the Nuggets contained to execute their brand of basketball and wound up winning without much trouble.
Up 1-0 in the series, Denver looks poised to take control of this series once Game 2 rolls around and a large part of their success will come via Nikola Jokic.
Jokic was brilliant in Game 1 and shows no signs of slowing down as he looks to repeat as a champion.
Former Denver head coach George Karl has seen plenty of legends play in his past and he fired off a bold take regarding Jokic, via his personal Twitter account.
“I’ve been around hoops for 50 years and I’ve seen a lot of incredible players, including Connie, Julius, Michael, Tim, Shaq, KAJ, Kobe and LBJ. But, at this point, I’m thinking Jokic may be the best player I’ve ever seen play basketball,” Karl tweeted.

There’s no denying the talent that Jokic is and he’s certainly earned a place amongst the greats, though Karl’s comments might rub some fans the wrong way given his assertion.
Jokic has a unique knack for controlling games, but he’ll need to add a few more titles to his resume before he belongs in the conversation for greatest to ever play.
