George Karl hasn’t coached in the NBA in nearly a decade but he did so much during his multiple decades in the league.
Karl is still a major presence in the world of basketball and shares his opinion about the game often on Twitter.
On Friday morning, Karl wrote about the coaches he would most want to spend time with, “talking hoops culture, strategy or leadership.”
Karl said he’d want to start with his friend Gregg Popovich and would also hang out with Dean Smith and John Wooden.
I get asked a lot which coaches I would most want to spend time with, talking hoops culture, strategy or leadership.
It’s easy for me and it starts with my guy Pop. And if I could add Coach Dean Smith and Coach John Wooden to that dinner discussion, I would be thrilled! pic.twitter.com/8ec8aWKrLh

Karl has been living and breathing basketball all his life so his opinion definitely matters.
He got his start as a player, spending five years with the San Antonio Spurs before becoming a coach.
He then led the Spurs as an assistant and worked for the CBA team Montana Golden Nuggets before moving on to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Seattle SuperSonics, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, and Sacramento Kings.
During his career, Karl was NBA Coach of the Year in 2013 and was also the All-Star head coach four times.
He created and kept close friendships with players and other coaches during his many years in the world of professional basketball.
These days, Karl continues to talk about the game although he currently has no plans to return to coaching.
This lineup of coaches he listed on Twitter is historic and legendary in a number of ways.
Karl is smart to want to spend time with them, pick their brains, and learn about their approach to the game.
