The Los Angeles Lakers have — and will always have — the hottest coaching seat in the NBA and one of the hottest seats in all of sports.
They will now have their fourth coach in the past seven years, and that lack of stability could drive plenty of suitors away.
That’s particularly true when you also add LeBron James into the mix, as he’s had a power struggle with most of his coaches, not to mention the implied expectations that come with coaching him.
That’s why they’ll have to bring their A-game to make sure to get Dan Hurley.
Hurley is the most sought-after coach in the college basketball scene, and his situation with the UConn Huskies is quite solid.
He’s won back-to-back titles and has a full grasp of the program he’s built and developed.
With that in mind, the Lakers are reportedly ready to make him an offer he cannot refuse, offering him eight years and close to $100 million to be their next coach (via Anthony Irwin).
Considering that, former NBA coach George Karl took to Twitter to celebrate the news, stating that respect and love for coaches was coming back.

That’s a fair statement, as teams have often treated coaches as if they were disposable and easy to replace.
Hurley has been vocal about his desire to coach in the NBA, but the Lakers still need to make it worth his while.
It’s not usual to see teams being patient with coaches and their projects like the Denver Nuggets were with Michael Malone.
Hopefully, that won’t be the case anymore, as it takes time to win and no champion was built overnight, not even for the Lakers.
