George Kittle and the rest of the San Francisco 49ers’ veterans were scheduled to report to training camp on Tuesday, and it marks the start of their attempt to avenge their heartbreaking loss in last season’s Super Bowl.
The tight end is coming off an excellent 2023 season in which he posted 65 receptions for 1,020 yards and six touchdowns, earning him his third straight Pro Bowl appearance and his second selection to the All-Pro First Team.
Kittle reported to training camp at his usual weight, but he said he lost about 30 pounds during the offseason because he was recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered during February’s big game, per NBC Sports.

In that Super Bow loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Kittle only managed two catches on three targets for four yards.
He is such an important part of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense, not just because of his ability to run routes, make catches and add yards after catches, but also because of his ability to block for his teammates.
Blocking is something the Niners’ skill players are unselfishly willing to do on a consistent basis, even when they aren’t getting the football much.
Kittle has been a bit injury-prone over the years, possibly due to his physical style of play — just once in his seven NFL seasons has he appeared in every regular season game.
Luckily, San Francisco has many studs on offense, not to mention a very talented defense that has the ability to be the best in the league once again.
