The New York Yankees are having one of the most disappointing seasons in MLB.

They entered the season on the short list of teams that could win the American League.

Instead, they will not even make the playoffs.

The Yankees have been bitten by the injury bug most of the season.

Losing Aaron Judge for an extended period has derailed their season.

But, one player who continues to show up and produce every five days is starting pitcher Gerrit Cole.

The righty has been elite this season, especially at keeping teams off the scoreboard.

According to Katie Sharp, Cole has 23 starts this season with two earned runs or fewer.

Cole is only five such starts away from tying the franchise record.

Gerrit Cole now has 23 starts with 2 runs or fewer allowed this season (the most in MLB).

The only pitchers in Yankees history with more in a season are Ron Guidry (26 in 1978) and Jack Chesbro (28 in 1904).

Even in a lost season in New York, the Yankees must be happy with how Cole pitched.

He is proving well worth the contract he signed with the Yankees.

Cole is the massive favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award.

It would be the first Cy Young award of his storied career.

Cole leads the AL in a bunch of significant statistics.

He is first in ERA, games started, innings pitched, ERA+, and WHIP.

Cole crossed the 200-strikeout threshold for the third straight season.

Not many players have been as consistent as Cole over the past few years.

He takes the mound each week and gives the Yankees a great chance to win.

That is all you can hope for out of your ace.

Even though it is a forgettable season for the Yankees, this is one that Cole will remember forever.
