The New York Yankees offense has been surprisingly ineffective this year.
This is even more noticeable whenever Aaron Judge is forced to miss time.
Still, there are enough names on the roster to think the Yankees can produce much more than they have this year.
Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, Harrison Bader… there are former All-Star, MVPs, and World Series winners in that group.
Stanton, specifically, is having the worst season of his career.
Not only that, but manager Aaron Boone put him in a position to fail on Tuesday night: making him enter as a pinch-hitter.
Pinch-hitting for Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the bottom of the ninth with the Yankees down and two men on base, Stanton struck out to end the game.
Still, it’s hard to blame Boone on this one because it’s better to have Stanton than Kiner-Falefa out there.
However, MLB stats expert Katie Sharp illustrates how bad Stanton has been in that role for his entire career.
“Giancarlo Stanton is now 3-40 (.075) with 22 K as a pinch hitter in his career,” she tweeted.

That’s very, very bad.
Some players just aren’t made for entering a game and making an immediate impact.
Stanton’s performance this year has been worrisome for New York.
For the first time in his career, he has been a below-average hitter according to wRC+, with 89 (100 is considered league-average production).
He has slashed .197/.273/.433 in 231 plate appearances.
It’s very hard for the Yankees to consistently produce runs when Stanton, Rizzo, LeMahieu, and others have struggled so badly at the plate.
