The week certainly didn’t start well for the New York Yankees.

General manager Brian Cashman has shown a defiant style in the last few days, responding to criticism for the past season by saying “the Yankees are pretty f****** good,” among other things.

On Monday, he had a shocking choice of words to refer to Giancarlo Stanton’s injury problems, saying that “he is going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game.”

Whether he is right or not, it doesn’t matter: it was surprising to see the GM talking about one of his players like that.

On Tuesday, Stanton’s agent, Joel Wolfe, had a response for Cashman: it wasn’t peaceful.

“Giancarlo Stanton’s agent, Joel Wolfe, responds below to Yankees GM Brian Cashman saying of Stanton, ‘He’s going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game,’” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal tweeted, with a picture of Wolfe’s remarks.

Wolfe stated that he read and heard the whole context of the interview, and concluded that “it’s a good reminder for all free agents considering signing in New York, both foreign and domestic, that to play for that team you have got to be made of Teflon, both mentally and physically, because you can never let your guard down even in the offseason.”

Whoa.

We are not sure what exactly Cashman’s angle is here, but angering his own players is probably not the way to go.

Stanton does have the injury-prone label, but it’s certainly not his fault.

His diminishing play and increasingly frequent injuries have apparently emptied Cashman’s patience.
