Many people have lamented the current era of the NBA because they feel superstars on opposing teams are too friendly with each other.

These pundits and fans claim there are no rivalries anymore and that none of the league’s stars and superstars want to compete against each other.

These claims are clearly hyperbolic, and Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is just one example.

Per BleavNetwork via NBACentral, he admitted that he refuses to work out with players from other teams during the offseason because he wants to maintain his competitive edge.

Giannis Antetokounmpo says he refuses to work out with other NBA players in the offseason

“I don’t know how to be phony. I don’t know how to be fake. That’s why I kind of keep my distance, because I know that if I work out with people, it takes active players, it takes off my… pic.twitter.com/J4EGtuOiHt

Antetokounmpo, unlike LeBron James and Kevin Durant, has resisted the urge to team up with other players and form a superteam.

He could’ve done so in 2020 following a stunning second-round playoff defeat to the seemingly inferior Miami Heat, but he instead decided to remain put in Wisconsin.

His loyalty and patience were rewarded, as the Bucks won the NBA championship the very next season.

Right now, the Bucks are considered one of the favorites to win it all this coming season, but the clock seems to be ticking on their championship window.

Key players such as Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday are getting long in the tooth, and perhaps that is why Antetokounmpo said recently that he won’t sign a contract extension unless he is confident Milwaukee will continue to be a title contender.

The Greek Freak has three more years left on his current contract, and he can opt out of it in 2025 and become a free agent that summer.
