Although Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t become a champion until after Jason Kidd stopped leading the Milwaukee Bucks, the two-time MVP is still very fond of his former coach.

Sitting down with the BleavNetwork, via ClutchPoints, Antetokounmpo was asked to use one word to describe Kidd.

He did so without hesitation: “Genius.”

This is a comment that might shock some people but diehard Antetokounmpo fans are likely not surprised.

Antetokounmpo only started in 23 games during his first season in the league.

Because of his age, his build, and a number of reasons, head coach Larry Drew didn’t yet see Antetokounmpo as the future superstar he would become.

However, when Kidd took over coaching duties in 2014, things changed and Antetokounmpo got a lot more time on the floor.

In a short time, the Bucks bounced back in a big way and were one of the most exciting teams in their conference.

However, there was still a lot of inconsistency with the team and they didn’t really get it together until after Kidd was fired in 2018.

But many believe he laid the groundwork for the successful era – and Finals run – the team later had.

Kidd has been a somewhat controversial coach.

There have been reports of him being incredibly hard on his players, even forcing them to practice on Christmas Eve.

He also tried to seize more power from the Bucks’ front office, according to other reports.

But it looks like Antetokounmpo is still very satisfied with the sort of coach Kidd is and the accomplishments he had while in charge of Milwaukee.

If one of the best NBA players alive is calling him a genius, Kidd must be doing something right.
