The New York Giants entered the NFL Draft with plenty of needs.
Most people thought they were tempted to go after a new quarterback, as Daniel Jones had suffered yet another injury, and he hadn’t been particularly good when healthy, either.
Eventually, they decided to go with a unique talent to give him yet a solid weapon, taking LSU star Malik Nabers.
Now, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
In an episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks, GM Joe Schoen is shown talking about how much they needed to protect Jones and how he wasn’t going to give up on him.
He talked about the countless injuries their offensive line had to go through, adding that not even Patrick Mahomes could win behind that offensive line.
Giants GM Joe Schoen still believes in QB Daniel Jones:
“You could have Pat Mahomes and he couldn’t f**king win behind that”

Truth be told, it makes sense to double down on someone when you believe in him and know you haven’t put him in a position to succeed.
The Giants didn’t only lack offensive line security and depth but also a legitimate star in the passing game.
Granted, Jones hasn’t done much to help his case either, and some have already lost all faith in him.
It’s hard to blame those who have already given up on Jones at this point in his career.
But if he’s their guy for the future — or at least they feel that way — it only makes sense that they go the extra mile to make sure he has all the weapons he needs at his disposal.
