The New York Giants had a very frustrating season in 2023, and it has led to speculation about their immediate future.
Perhaps the biggest question has centered around star running back Saquon Barkley, who is about to become a free agent and was angling for a lucrative contract extension during training camp.
There has also been speculation about head coach Brain Daboll, who has been rumored to be on the hot seat.
For now, Daboll’s job may be safe, and he will reportedly have a new defensive coordinator in Shane Bowen, formerly of the Tennessee Titans, per Jeremy Fowler.

Bowen had been the Titans’ defensive coordinator for the last three seasons; however, the Titans have only been an average defensive team over the last two years.
In 2021, his first season in the role, they did finish sixth in points allowed and second in rushing yards given up.
As poor as the Giants were offensively this season, their defense was almost as poor.
Last season, their defense and ability to muck up the game were big reasons why they finished with a 9-7-1 record and upset the 13-4 Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the playoffs.
New York has Pro Bowl defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence and an emerging stud in linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, but their secondary could use help.
After winning just six games this year, they will have the No. 6 pick in April’s draft, and it will be interesting to see which direction they go in as far as how to use that pick.
