After a surprise run to the playoffs in 2022, the 2023 NFL season certainly hasn’t gone very well for the New York Giants.

The Giants are currently sitting with a 2-6 record after the first eight games on the schedule, including a brutal 13-10 loss in overtime to the New York Jets.

During that loss to the Jets, New York was forced to play third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito after Tyrod Taylor was knocked out of the matchup in the middle of the contest after suffering an injury to his ribs.

Without Taylor on the field, the Giants wound up finishing with an abysmal total of -9 passing yards in the loss to the Jets.

Luckily for the Giants, they should be getting some help at the quarterback position next week as head coach Brian Daboll revealed that starting signal-caller Daniel Jones is expected to participate in the team’s practice on Wednesday, per Adam Schefter.

Despite his struggles this season, Jones would clearly be New York’s best option at quarterback if Taylor has to miss any time due to the injury he suffered on Sunday.

Jones has had some bad performances in his career with the Giants, but he’s never had a game in which New York finished with negative passing yards.

Returning to practice doesn’t necessarily mean that Jones is a guarantee to start in New York’s upcoming Week 9 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

But, at the very least, he at least has a chance to start against the Raiders next Sunday.

And even if he’s not 100 percent, the Giants really can’t do much worse than what they did when DeVito was on the field in Week 8, right?
