After a disastrous 2023 NFL season, which resulted in the team missing the NFL playoffs and finishing with a record of 6-11, the New York Giants are hoping for a bounce-back campaign, which got off to a decent start after selecting wide receiver Malik Nabers in the 2024 NFL Draft.
With Nabers expected to be a difference-maker right out of the gate in Week 1, the Giants have a potential star to continue to build around, but there are plenty of other areas where the team needs upgrades, especially in the secondary.
Apparently, Nabers has been exposing that unit during training camp, which has led some fans to wonder whether general manager Joe Schoen will address the problem by looking at a potential impact player available on the open market.
A fan suggested that the Giants might add former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, who is currently a free agent.
Giants insider Art Stapleton quickly dismissed that idea.
“That’s not happening,” Stapleton wrote on X.

Although Gilmore is not the dominant defensive player he once was with the New England Patriots years ago, he can still make an impact on that side of the football and might become a hotter commodity closer to the start of the season next month.
It is anyone’s guess what additions the Giants might make, if any, before the 2024 season gets underway, as they may be content with what they already have.
