Former Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller made waves recently by announcing his retirement from the NFL.

Last with the New York Giants in 2023, Waller put up 52 receptions for 552 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Fans around the league, especially in New York, are now under the impression that this trade by the Giants was not a good one.

Insider Jordan Raanan recently posted his thoughts about that idea on social media.

“I don’t think it was a terrible trade. Giants knew it came with risk. They paid a third-rounder and $10M for a chance at a No. 1 receiver…The mistake was restructuring his deal and moving money into the future,” Raanan tweeted.

For a tight end not named Kelce or Kittle, Waller put up decent numbers for the Giants in his only season with the team.

He also had a history of great production in the league.

In both 2019 and 2020 with the Raiders, he recorded 90+ receptions for over 1,000 yards in each season.

He was one of the best offensive players in the game at one point.

The Giants are not an offensive juggernaut.

He went to play with Daniel Jones and put up okay numbers.

But there wasn’t much stability on that side of the ball.

The Giants tried their luck with Waller, and it just didn’t work out.

But when he was with the Raiders, he was a true weapon.
