The San Francisco Giants have made a key move geared toward the near future.
On Friday, the team announced that they had given their ace, right-hander Logan Webb, a five-year contract extension.
The financial terms of the new contract have not yet been revealed, but the Giants will have Webb around for the next five seasons.
Webb started Games 1 and 5 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021.
The 26-year-old has taken over the role of ace since the departure of left-hander Carlos Rodon.
He is currently 0-3 to start the season and has posted a 4.76 ERA in 17 innings of work.
He has also struck out 22 batters and posted a 1.24 WHIP.
On Twitter, the Giants announced the news of the contract extension.

For his career, Webb has appeared in 83 games.
He owns a lifetime record of 31-22 and has an ERA of 3.53 in 451.2 innings of work.
In addition, he has 426 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.22.
He won 15 games in 32 starts last year and had an ERA of 2.90.
The right-hander made his MLB debut in 2019 and emerged as a frontline starter in 2021 when he won 11 games and posted a 3.03 ERA.
The Giants themselves are not off to the best start this season.
After missing the postseason last year and finishing with a .500 record, the team is 5-7 through their first 12 games.
They’ll kick off a three-game series on the road against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Friday.
Webb will pitch on Sunday in the series finale and will be opposed by Matthew Boyd.
