Everyone is very proud of Team USA’s recent work at the Paris Olympics and their fifth consecutive gold medal in men’s basketball.

And many are talking about previous iterations of the team, including Gilbert Arenas.

On the latest episode of “The OGs Show,” Arenas talked about when he missed the chance to play with Team USA in 2006.

He said that he was practicing with the team at an army base when he suffered a mild groin injury.

He reported the injury to Team USA manager Jerry Colangelo, who revealed that Arenas was “on the bubble” and might not make the cut.

Arenas was shocked at this news and was ultimately left off the team.

Back then, Arenas was in his prime and doing amazing things for the Washington Wizards.

He averaged 29.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists during the 2005-06 season.

Arenas was named an All-Star for the second consecutive season and would earn a spot on that team one more time in 2006-07.

Team USA would have been smart to use Arenas but they were stuffed full of other great talent and felt like they didn’t need him.

The team had stars like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, and more.

Even with all of those stars, they ended up in third place in the World Cup.

One wonders how much better they could have played had Arenas been on the roster.

According to this story, it sounds like he came close, but not close enough, to suiting up on behalf of his country.
