For decades, NBA fans have debated about LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
Jordan set the bar so high, and while LeBron may come close to him in some regards, he’ll never be 6-0 in the NBA Finals; he might never even win six rings.
Of course, there should be no shame in being the second-greatest player of all time, but some people make it seem like stating that Jordan is the best of all time means that LeBron James is a scrub, and that’s not the case at all.
Also, some might make a case for James to be better or more accomplished than Jordan, and while longevity isn’t the only thing that should matter in this debate, it would also be a strong case.
With that in mind, Gilbert Arenas explained why James would never be like Jordan.
In the latest edition of his podcast, he stated that there were no Skip Baylesses or guys who made a living off slandering Michael Jordan back in the day because people actually smiled when they mentioned or thought of Jordan; that’s not the case with LeBron (Via ClutchPoints).
“Skip Bayless, what he’s done to LeBron [James for 22 years]. He wouldn’t have had [a job]… There was no making a career off of Michael Jordan slander… When you heard [MJ’s] name, it made you smile.”

Perhaps that’s a byproduct of Jordan’s greatness; he was the first true worldwide superstar, and people had already experienced that before LeBron.
This means a lot, especially from a diehard LeBron fan who has often taken shots at Jordan and players from older eras.
Moreover, even if Jordan’s behavior off the court wasn’t always role model-like, there weren’t many reasons to slander him when he was dominating the league at will.
He was criticized earlier in his career when he couldn’t beat the Pistons, but once he won his first ring, it was over for everybody else.
