After a successful stint with the Miami Heat and a successful return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, superstar forward LeBron James chose to take on a new challenge in the NBA by signing with the historic Los Angeles Lakers franchise.
Even though James had already accomplished a lot in his NBA career and was considered to be one of the greatest players in league history, he faced another tall task altogether in Los Angeles, with the franchise being synonymous with winning and having a legacy of greatness with iconic players.
Along with having the challenge of turning the Lakers back into a winner, James was the first superstar to come to Los Angeles since the retirement of Kobe Bryant, which were shoes he’d never be able to fill.
As of right now, it is looking like James’ stint with the Lakers will end without another title won, and the team struggling even to make the NBA playoffs.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that he re-signs with the team this summer and has a couple more years of trying to contend, but the odds are against him, which leads former NBA star Gilbert Arenas to conclude on the Nightcap podcast that James was just a rental for greatness via NBA Central.
“LeBron was a rental for Lakers greatness, and that’s just something that he’s going to have to accept,” Arenas said.

It’ll be interesting to see how James’ stint with the Lakers comes to an end and whether it turns out to be an ugly divorce or a thankful farewell in Los Angeles.
Only time will tell, and with how things are going, James leaving might be sooner rather than later.
