Grant Hill was a legendary player during his time in the NBA.
He played from 1994-2013, amassing several accolades throughout his career, including seven All-Star appearances, co-Rookie of the Year, and was a gold medalist with Team USA during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Hill hasn’t played in the league for many years, but he is still very connected to the sport.
He is the managing director for Team USA’s basketball team, a responsibility he does not take lightly.
One of the aspects of Hill’s job is to create the roster, a tall task for anyone.
The NBA is filled with many talented players, but the United States can only have 12 players on their roster, making his decisions difficult.
Hill was forced to make some tough decisions and edits during his process, a position he reportedly didn’t like being in, at times.
According to Hill via a recent conversation with Sirius XM NBA Radio, “I left people off [the roster[ that I love, that I want to tune in and watch. That was hard.”

Hill recognizes the position he was put in with this role, and while he enjoys what he does, there are certainly downsides, at least at an emotional level.
But, if Team USA wants their best chance of winning a gold medal this year, they had to be selective with who they had on the roster.
Some fans and analysts have critiqued Hill’s decisions throughout the process, including leaving Jaylen Brown off the team, but they’ll soon see if Hill’s decisions will pan out.
