The Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed someone who could carry the load and bring them back to the playoffs.

With Tom Brady out of the picture, it wasn’t an easy task to find a suitable replacement for one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the game.

That’s why they had to take a chance on Baker Mayfield, one of the few guys with some upside who was available at a reasonable price and could make the most of their stellar receiving corps.

That move was met with mockery and skepticism, and some people weren’t even sure if he was going to be their starter.

Fast forward to today, and Mayfield has proven he is still far from done and that he has something left in the tank.

Now, according to PFF, he’s been perfect targeting the end zone this season, throwing 16 touchdowns with no interceptions.

Granted, things haven’t always been pretty with Mayfield, and the skepticism and doubts were warranted.

But he played at an MVP-caliber level at one point in the season and played through his team’s struggles, helping them bounce back to get right on track for the NFC South.

Mayfield has earned the right to get another big contract in the offseason, whether it’s with the Bucs or someone else, and it’s nice to see a former No. 1 pick finding his groove and proving that sometimes, all you need is a change of scenery to be at your best.
