The Baltimore Ravens came into the 2023 NFL season looking to become a more well-rounded offensive team and they’ve taken legitimate strides in doing so.

The Ravens brought in offensive coordinator Todd Monken to redesign the passing game and it looks like his schematic tweaks are finally starting to take root on the field as Lamar Jackson has been efficient when throwing the football.

However, Monken also understands that the identity of the offense will always be a run-first operation as he made sure to keep those concepts alive and well on the playcalling sheet.

When Jackson is the quarterback, the Ravens have the advantage of having a dual-threat star who can make defenses pay either through the air or on the ground.

Jackson’s running ability also opens up more possibilities for the running backs on the roster who have taken advantage of some wide-open running lanes.

Through 11 weeks, Baltimore has dominated teams on the ground and they are leading the pack when it comes to rushing yards per game via NBC.

They are the only team to rush for 100+yards in every game this season.

Even though the Ravens lost J.K Dobbins early on in the season, the running backs behind him have picked up the slack.

Alongside Jackson, Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, and Keaton Mitchell have formed a formidable trio that presents different running styles that defenses have to account for.

Baltimore has the luxury to run more often than other teams because they’re typically playing with a lead late in games, the perfect time for a team to run out the clock and force opponents to try to play catchup.
