Recently, Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid made it loud and clear that the team hasn’t had any sort of communication whatsoever with star DT Chris Jones.

As of now, a long holdout seems like the likeliest scenario, as Jones has also let it be known that he doesn’t intend to set foot on the field unless he gets a new deal.

And while the Chiefs were reportedly willing to do right by him and give him the money he’s worth, there seems to be a major impasse between both parties.

Needless to say, that’s terrible news for the defending Super Bowl champions.

As pointed out by ESPN (via Dov Kleiman), Jones has been a staple of the Chiefs defense, up to the point where they rank No. 1 in the NFL in QB pressure percentage when he’s on the field and 28th when he’s not.

As #Chiefs Chris Jones continues his holdout, a look at his impact on KC’s defense:

Jones was a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year for most of last season, and he vowed to be even better and more dominant this year.

He’s entering the final year of his contract, and he doesn’t want to be back unless he’s made one of the highest-paid defensive players in NFL history.

Jones hasn’t reported for training camp or played in any of their preseason contests.

And while the Chiefs offense will continue to be their cover letter, not having him around could be the biggest hurdle they need to get past in their pursuit of another Super Bowl championship right now.
