At this point, with a little over a month to play in the 2023 MLB regular season, teams have a pretty good idea of where they stand.

There are clear contenders, teams that are already thinking about 2024, and the ones in between.

Some of the teams that aren’t going anywhere placed some potentially useful players on waivers as a way to get some salary relief.

This means that contenders can go shopping and add an important piece or two as we head to September.

Which players are now on waivers?

Well, the Los Angeles Angels placed Matt Moore, Dominic Leone, Randal Grichuk, Reynaldo Lopez, Hunter Renfroe and Lucas Giolito there.

The Chicago White Sox did the same with Mike Clevinger, and the New York Yankees waived Harrison Bader.

The Detroit Tigers waived Jose Cisnero, and the New York Mets also declared Carlos Carrasco waiver-eligible.

There are some talented players on that list, so what’s the waiver order?

The Cleveland Guardians, Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants could all make some additions, depending on their financial flexibility and willingness to add another player.

The Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Minnesota Twins could be next.

All we know is that the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles are longshots to add someone because they are at the bottom of the list by virtue of their excellent position in the standings.

On Thursday, the day most of these players can be claimed, there could be a mini-version of free agency.
