After a disappointing end to the 2023 NFL season and the team parting ways with head coach Brandon Staley, the Los Angeles Chargers are trying to right the ship as quickly as possible with some massive changes to the coaching staff and the roster.
Firstly, the Chargers brass made the smart move to hire Jim Harbaugh as it’s new head coach, as his presence and leadership on the sideline can be a game-changer immediately.
Secondly, Los Angeles had to address the roster and make some moves, which the team did by parting ways with Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams, paving the way for a new-look roster around superstar quarterback Justin Herbert next season.
Although Harbaugh and the Chargers brass have a long way to go, the team did make a solid move by bringing in running back Gus Edwards to be Ekeler’s successor coming out of the backfield, who revealed why he chose to sign with Los Angeles this offseason via the team’s Twitter account.
“I just thought it was a great opportunity,” Edwards said. “The coaching staff they’ve been putting together is incredible. I’m real familiar with Coach [Greg] Roman and his game. I just wanted to be part of it because I already know what his mindset is, and the same is true with Coach [Jim] Harbaugh being a physical team, and I just wanted to be a part of that.”

Edwards had the best season of his career in the NFL last season with the Baltimore Ravens, where he racked up a career-high 990 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns.
He’ll likely get the same kind of usage while with the Chargers and become one of Harbaugh’s best offensive weapons during the 2024 campaign.
