The Charlotte Hornets are officially heading to a new era.

They’ve already moved on from Michael Jordan’s ownership tenure, and they now have a new coach leading the way for them.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, they’ve announced the hiring of Boston Celtics assistant coach Charles Lee (Via NBA on ESPN).

Lee agreed on a four-year deal with the organization.

Per Wojnarowski, the 39-year-old has been one of the most accomplished and sought-after assistant coaches in the game, and he’s now been given the green light to lead the Hornets’ rebuilding project.

This isn’t much of a surprise, as he had already worked with Hornets’ new executive president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson when they were in the Atlanta Hawks.

Lee joined Joe Mazzulla’s coaching staff last season after spending five years with Mike Budenholzer, helping the Milwaukee Bucks win a championship in 2021.

He’s now going to replace Steve Clifford, who recently moved to a front-office position.

The Hornets are coming off a 21-61 season in which LaMelo Ball was mostly out with an injury, and they face some key decisions in the offseason.

Also, developing No. 2 pick Brandon Miller and building the team around him should be their biggest priority for years to come.
