The San Francisco 49ers are currently in a championship window, with the storied franchise trying to win their sixth Super Bowl title, with head coach Kyle Shanahan calling the shots on the sideline and star quarterback Brock Purdy leading the way under center.
Although most things in the Bay Area seem to be trending in the right direction for the 49ers, the team has been surrounded by nothing but negative attention as of late due to the unresolved contract situation with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
The 49ers and Aiyuk’s representation have gone back and forth for months trying to agree to a new deal that would make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the game, but they haven’t been able to see eye-to-eye leading to a trade request from the 26-year-old.
With the Week 1 matchup with Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets being right around the corner, it is decision time for the 49ers, with a trade proposal on the table from the Pittsburgh Steelers, but there’s still a chance Aiyuk returns to San Francisco with a new deal.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Steelers are ready to make a deal, and the 49ers are still holding out hope of signing Aiyuk to an extension, but the whole situation still remains in limbo via Steelers Depot.
“There are dual paths for the 49ers,” Rapoport said. “There is the potential trade with the Steelers. Then, there is the potential contract extension with Brandon Aiyuk. Neither thing is done. That is why we are in absolute limbo for Brandon Aiyuk.”

At this point in time, it seems like either scenario could happen where Aiyuk is traded to Pittsburgh and gets a fresh start with the Steelers under longtime head coach Mike Tomlin or agrees to a deal with the 49ers and remains in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future.
Only time will tell how things pan out, as it could very easily go either way in the coming weeks.
