Early reactions and takeaways to NFL draft picks don’t often mean much, as it takes years to realize how a team did in the draft, but it’s always fun in the moment to acknowledge when a team navigates the board well and fills multiple obvious holes on its roster.
One insider already believes one team is doing an incredible job after the first three rounds.
Insider Benjamin Allbright posted on X that the “Commanders are absolutely crushing this draft.”
Commanders are absolutely crushing this draft

Through the first two days, Washington had a whopping six picks and started things off by selecting LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick and followed that up by taking Illinois DT Jer’zhan Newton 36th overall, Michigan CB Mike Sainristil at No. 50, Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott 53rd, TCU guard Brandon Coleman 67th, and Rice wide receiver Luke McCaffrey 100th overall.
The Commanders are going through a rebuilding phase and need talent all over the field, so they deserve credit for selecting players at six different positions with their first six picks.
Daniels likely steps in as the Day 1 starter at quarterback and he already has a guard, tight end, and slot receiver joining him in this rookie class.
This new regime has to make sure things go better for their rookie quarterback than previous regimes did with Robert Griffin III, Dwayne Haskins, and Sam Howell.
Washington still has three picks left to round out it’s roster with a pair of fifth-round picks and a seventh-rounder, and it is off to a great start so far.
