In 2003, LeBron James took the NBA by storm as he was able to live up to the hype of potentially being the next Michael Jordan while coming out of high school to be the new face of his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.

The odds were against James to live up to expectations coming out of high school, as many expected him to be elite right away and immediately turn the Cavaliers around.

Although it took a couple of years, James was able to do just that and eventually paved his way to four NBA titles and becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer, passing Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, which many thought was virtually impossible.

This year, Victor Wembanyama is getting the same kind of hype that James did coming into the league, as some believe he can change the game with the way he plays and due to the ability he can do pretty much anything on the basketball floor.

Ahead of Wembanyama’s debut for the San Antonio Spurs against the Dallas Mavericks, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst boldly claimed that the French phenom is a more skilled player than James was at 19, via NBACentral.

Brian Windhorst says 19-year-old Victor Wembanyama is more skilled than LeBron James was at 19

“His skill level is VASTLY advanced to where LeBron’s was at the same age.”

That statement by Windhorst will turn a lot of heads, as it seems like a stretch until one actually makes the comparison and concludes that he’s right.

The most significant difference between these two players is that Wembanyama is more of a finished product than James at 19, as he can do virtually anything on the basketball court.

The shooting skills of these two players set them apart, as Wembanyama can already stretch the floor with his shooting ability, while James has never been a great shooter.
