Haason Reddick may have tricked the New York Jets.
Both parties had reportedly agreed to play out the final year of his contract before getting a very lucrative extension, but the star pass-rusher now isn’t willing to honor his end of the deal.
Of course, perhaps the Jets were naive to think he’d leave his hometown team to play on the exact same terms somewhere else when he could’ve just stayed with the Philadelphia Eagles, who are also Super Bowl contenders.
Whatever the case, the fact of the matter is that Reddick hasn’t shown up to work, and it doesn’t seem like the Jets are going to budge on his ransom demands either.
With that in mind, Jets insider Rich Cimini took to Twitter to point out just how much money Reddick has cost himself with his holdout.
He’s reportedly on Day 35 of his holdout, which ties Darrelle Revis’ holdout in 2010.
As of now, Reddick has accumulated $1.75 million in mandatory training camp fines.

Cimini also points out that Revis was a generational talent, so he clearly had more leverage than Reddick does now.
The Jets certainly need Reddick to be out there, especially after losing Bryce Huff.
Nevertheless, these negotiations haven’t been made in good faith, and as such, it’s just hard to trust the other party.
As things stand, Reddick risks losing even more money by not showing up and missing the entire season, not to mention the fact that spending a year away from the game can take a serious toll on anybody’s ability to make an impact.
At some point, teams will stop budging and draw a line in the sand, and it seems like the Jets are finally setting that precedent.
