In an unexpected turn of events on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Bucks decided it was time to part ways with first-year head coach Adrian Griffin, even though the team is sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30-13.
The move was shocking, to say the least, as title-contending teams usually don’t make drastic moves like this during the regular season.
With the Bucks making such a drastic move with everything seemingly going right on paper, everyone is wondering what went wrong with Griffin and what would force the team to make this kind of decision in a title-contending year.
According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, there have been rumors floating around the league for weeks about Griffin and that superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo had lost faith in the first-year head coach.
There have been steady rumblings for weeks in NBA circles that several Bucks veterans, including Giannis, had lost faith in Griffin. What appeared to be smart hire last spring just never worked out.

Even though this is a shocking move, it seems to stem from Terry Stotts leaving the team suddenly before the season even began, as he and Griffin weren’t seeing eye-to-eye.
It’ll be interesting to see what other information comes out about Griffin in the coming weeks and the real reason behind his firing because it looks like there’s a lot more of the story to be told rather than Antetokounmpo losing faith in him.
As for the Bucks moving forward, the team has won five out of its last six games, with the latest being back-to-back wins on the road against the Detroit Pistons.
Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard continue to look like one of the best dynamic duos in the game, which will surely draw interest from big-name head coaches currently looking for work.
