The NBA needs veterans.
The league is getting younger by the year, and while that’s not necessarily bad from a competition standpoint, every single team needs a leader and a veteran presence from someone who’s been there and done that, someone who could teach the young players about life.
With that in mind, half of the league was in attendance to watch both John Wall and Austin Rivers work out in Orlando (via Chris Haynes).

Needless to say, both players’ primes are far behind them, but it’s hard to think they couldn’t crack a rotation and give a team some impactful and positive minutes on offense.
Wall was one of the best playmakers in the league during his heyday, and he should still be more than capable of running a second unit’s offense, even if he doesn’t have the same burst and speed from back in the day.
As for Rivers, he’s always been a consistent three-and-D presence, a big guard who could guard multiple positions and knock down the occasional shot every now and then.
One-third of the regular season is already on the books, and teams already know which aspects of the game they need to improve.
So even though these two might not get another chance to suit up any time soon, teams could pick up their interest in any of them as we head towards the finish line of the season.
Hopefully, there will be more room for aging players, as they can have a huge impact on a team even if they’re not playing.
