After almost a month of a limbo period following Jonathan Taylor’s trade request and team owner Jim Irsay’s refusal to grant it, the Indianapolis Colts have given the star running back permission to seek a trade on Monday.
This is a surprising development, to say the least, as Irsay seemed adamant about not granting Taylor’s trade request and was clearly angered by the situation for whatever reason.
Regardless of Irsay being upset with Taylor a few weeks ago, the Colts are moving forward with the request in hopes of getting as much as they can in return for arguably one of the league’s best running backs.
With many teams around the league starting to take a different stance on the value of running backs in the league, even the top-tier players at the position, it may be not easy to get what the team is looking for in return for Taylor.
However, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network says the Colts want a trade package bigger than what the Carolina Panthers got from the San Francisco 49ers in the deal for Christian McCaffrey last year.

Giving up more than four draft picks and paying a premium for Taylor’s services on top of that seems like a stretch, as the days of those trade packages for running backs might be over.
Even though that’s a massive asking price, there’s always a chance that a team might be willing to do it to give their franchise a boost offensively.
Currently, no teams seem to be popping up as potential suitors, which isn’t a great sign, but things can change quickly in the NFL.
