The San Francisco 49ers and Nick Bosa spent months talking about how a new contract was imminent.
Fast forward to today, and the star pass rusher still hasn’t reported to the team as he awaits a new deal.
And with the start of the season just a couple of days away, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that it would take a ‘significant breakthrough’ for Bosa to take the field in Week One.
Rapoport states that the Niners have already agreed to make him the highest-paid defensive player in the league ahead of T.J. Watt, but now, it’s all about trying to match Aaron Donald’s average annual value of $31 million.

Bosa is one of the most talented players in the league, and his impact on the field is almost unmatched.
His ability to disrupt everything in his way and rush the opposing quarterback is top-notch and he definitely deserves to be paid as one of the marquee players on Earth.
Even so, these holdouts are taking a big toll on the game, mostly because some of them seem to come from a place of ego.
At the end of the day, the Niners will likely find a way to get their best player back on the gridiron, but it might reach a point where teams simply won’t budge anymore.
