Bill Belichick appears to be the lead head coach target for the Atlanta Falcons, but that doesn’t mean the team isn’t going to conduct a thorough search before making a hire.

The Falcons will reportedly interview other candidates before they decide on their next head coach, including bringing in one of Belichick’s former players and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel for any interview

So, if Belichick does indeed take over in Atlanta, the hiring could take up to a while to finalize, according to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.

“If it winds up being Belichick, it’s going to take several days,” Jones said. “Maybe even a week.”

Belichick brings with him one of the best resumes in NFL history with six Super Bowl championships and three NFL Coach of the Year awards.

He’d join a team in the Falcons that failed to make the postseason again despite a talented offense led by running back Bijan Robinson, wide receiver Drake London, and tight end Kyle Pitts.

The defense showed promise as well but couldn’t close out games and ended up failing to win the NFC South or even make the playoffs.

The biggest issue for Atlanta is what the team does at quarterback – as the Falcons could try to move up from the No. 8 pick to draft one, sign a cheaper veteran in free agency – if one even becomes available – or trade for someone like Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

But before any wholesale roster changes can be made, the team needs to pick it’s next head coach – a search the team isn’t taking lightly.
