The Los Angeles Lakers continue to be in the hunt for a new head coach.
However, it seems like they’ve already made their decision.
Despite several candidates reportedly being in the running, it would be shocking if they were to pivot at this point, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
In his latest talk, the insider revealed that the job seems to be JJ Redick’s to lose at this point.
Is JJ Redick going to be the next @Lakers coach?@jovanbuha of @TheAthletic:
“All signs point to JJ Redick…he’s been the frontrunner!”
“They’ve compared him internally to a young Pat Riley…they’re infatuated by his potential.”

Apparently, the Lakers would wait until after the NBA Finals because of Redick’s job as an analyst.
There has been plenty of chatter and back and forth regarding Redick and whether he’s the right man for the job.
It’s not easy to be a rookie coach in the league, especially one with zero previous coaching experience as an analyst.
Granted, Redick has always been great with the Xs and Os and has had to watch a ton of film not only as a player but also as a podcaster and analyst, but it’s just not the same.
Also, even if he could be a great coach, which he definitely could, he’ll have to deal with two monsters: The Lakers’ expectations and his relationship with LeBron James.
The Lakers don’t have a championship-caliber roster but will still be asked to play championship-level basketball, and his players might question every call, decision and message and whether it’s coming from him or his business partner, and that’s not a recipe for success.
