Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Tee Higgins was searching for a big contract extension this offseason.

He even held out of minicamp in an effort to earn his big deal.

However, his efforts were unsuccessful, and he is now going to have to play on what is essentially a one-year deal before he becomes a free agent next offseason.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently talked about Higgins’ future on The Pat McAfee Show.

“Tee Higgins was the only player to be franchise tagged during this offseason who didn’t get a long-term deal…In all probability, he will leave Cincinnati after this season,” Schefter stated.

Higgins tried to do what was best for him by trying to earn a major deal.

But now, he is going to have to produce in a big way yet again to earn a massive free agent deal next offseason.

The 25-year-old recorded over 3,000 receiving yards in total over his first three seasons while playing alongside three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

On most teams, he would be the No. 1 option in the passing game.

Unfortunately for him, the Bengals did not want to pay him in that way.

After missing five games due to injury last season, Higgins is now going to have to stay healthy and produce in order to receive a lucrative deal.

With Joe Burrow as his quarterback, anything is certainly possible for the former national champion receiver.

If he can go over 1,000 yards for the third time in his young career, he could command big money next offseason.
