The New York Yankees know that their offense needs to be much, much better in 2024 if they want to have a chance at making the playoffs.

They missed them this past season, for the first time since 2016, and fans are still holding a grudge because of that.

To be at their best, New York needs to find a way to add some quality offensive players.

Their offense was well-below average last season, and their deficiencies were exposed when Aaron Judge tore ligaments in the big toe of his right foot on June 3.

He missed almost two months, and the Yankees had a hard time producing runs over that span and even when he returned.

That’s why MLB insiders believe they are going hard after a couple of elite hitters this offseason.

“‘The Yankees are going to be all over [Juan] Soto in the same way that they’re all over Cody Bellinger.’ – @jonmorosi on #MLBNHotStove,” MLB Network tweeted, citing insider Jon Morosi.

Soto would require a significant investment in prospects plus a $30+ million salary in 2024, his last season of salary arbitration before reaching free agency.

Bellinger, on the other hand, is already a free agent so he wouldn’t require player capital, but the monetary investment would have to be significant.

Both are difference-makers, young, left-handed, and highly productive.

Bellinger is a better fielder, being capable of playing a great center field, but Soto is far more consistent as a hitter.

Getting one would be a coup for the Yankees.

Getting both would be the ideal scenario.
