The New York Yankees were one of the most disappointing teams in MLB this season.
They were able to salvage a winning record, but their 82-80 finish wasn’t enough to get them into the postseason.
Yankees fans, as you probably know, expect postseason baseball every year.
That’s why there is a sense of urgency in the organization as a whole, from owner Hal Steinbrenner to general manager Brian Cahsman to manager Aaron Boone.
The coaches and players want to win, too.
But the front office and ownership has to help them, putting the best players available on the field.
According to insiders, the Yankees are expected to make a splash in free agency.
There are three names in particular that generate interest in the Bronx.

Juan Soto is the prize of the trade market.
His .946 career OPS should tell you everything you need to know, and he hit a career-high 35 home runs in 2023.
He is left-handed, plays the outfield, and has a proven track record of success.
He is expensive and only under control for one more season before hitting free agency, though.
Cody Bellinger can play center field, something that Soto can’t offer.
He is also talented with the bat, but not as much as Soto.
Bellinger posted a .881 OPS with 26 homers this past season.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto doesn’t have MLB experience but is young (25), experienced, and successful.
He posted a 1.21 ERA in 164 innings in Japan this year and is highly accomplished.
Getting one of them would be great.
Two would be a coup, and three would be a dream come true.
