After flaming out of the NBA playoffs in the first round by falling to the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers must go back to the drawing board this summer, with the team now looking for a new head coach and hoping to re-sign LeBron James when he likely opts out of his contract with the team next month.

The real question moving forward is how much James has left in the tank, as he has shown some signs of slowing down and has admitted that he’s thought about walking away from the game because he believes he has nothing left to prove.

However, all signs point to James opting out of his current deal with the Lakers in June to re-sign with the team on a long-term deal, which could very well be his last NBA contract.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who recently made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” James is expected to play at least two more seasons, via NBACentral.

“I think the expectation around the league is that up to about two years,” Charania said. “Now listen, could LeBron James say ‘I want to play three years.’ I mean, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.”

It’ll be interesting to see whether those final two seasons will be with the Lakers, as he refused to commit to the team in his exit interview presser after losing to the Nuggets.

James could choose to become a free agent and sign elsewhere, with the Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers potentially being suitors in NBA free agency.
