At 6-2, the Minnesota Timberwolves are rolling to begin the 2023-24 NBA season.

The Timberwolves have reeled off five consecutive wins, with their most recent victory coming against the San Antonio Spurs.

Minnesota has been fortunate to see Anthony Edwards take the next leap to superstardom, an expected result given how he looked in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

However, it isn’t just Edwards because the rest of the team is playing amazing defense so far and has the team as the number-one ranked unit in the league.

Despite the team’s success, it could be getting more from Karl-Anthony Towns who is having a down year shooting from the field.

There aren’t any rumblings that Minnesota is looking to move on from Towns, though if they did decide to trade the former All-Star it sounds like they would struggle to get back much via Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

“I’m not sure [Minnesota] could get picks for Towns right now,” Windhorst said.

First-round draft picks are considered gold in trades nowadays, but it’s surprising to hear that someone like Towns wouldn’t be able to get back a single one in a potential trade.

Towns is playing in the final year of the five-year extension he signed in 2019, so teams are perhaps wary about having to give up too much just to re-sign him to another lucrative deal.

The big man likely isn’t going anywhere considering how well the team is playing right now, but this could be something to monitor should they start to falter toward the middle of the regular season.
