Trades in the NFL happen more and more frequently these days, as player movement is no longer uncommon in the league, with trades happening leading up to the trade deadline and during the NFL offseason.

However, head coaches being traded in the NFL rarely ever happens, as it can be a tricky situation that seldom comes to fruition.

Earlier this year, there was a rumor floating around that the Washington Commanders could acquire legendary head coach Bill Belichick from the New England Patriots, which seemed outlandish but possible if Robert Kraft and company decided it was time to move on.

According to JP Finlay of NBC4 Sports, there was no validity to the rumors of the Commanders bringing in Belichick, but two head coaches in the NFL who might actually be worth trading for are Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers longtime head coach Mike Tomlin.

When the Belichick trade rumor was floating around (which isn’t true for Washington) I checked w some folks. One NFL dude texted me flatly: “2 coaches worth trading for, McVay and Tomlin.” I agree on both.

At this point in time, there’s no telling what the future holds for Belichick, nor is it certain whether the Commanders are ready to make a big move to bring in an established head coach that can change the culture in the nation’s capital.

Back in 2002, the then-Oakland Raiders traded head coach Jon Gruden to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which was a regrettable move by Al Davis and company.

The Raiders ended up getting crushed by Gruden’s Buccaneers the following year in the Super Bowl.

Ironically enough, Belichick was traded from the New York Jets to the Patriots in 2000, and the result couldn’t have been better for New England, who went on to win six Super Bowl titles.
